Sycamore Island

WAYFINDING SYSTEM

Sycamore Island, located in the Allegheny River near Pittsburgh, PA, is the last remaining privately owned undeveloped island in Allegheny County. Conservation of Sycamore Island has created a unique opportunity for the public to visit and experience a wild, natural island within an urban county. It’s ecological, educational and recreational benefits will be forever protected.

The interpretive panels tell the story of the island, its unique history and restoration efforts. The content was gathered from the client in story telling sessions. Information was organized to create the narrative for 7 key sites.

An Initial site visit to the island was necessary to determine where wayfinding and interpretive signage should be placed. Materials were chosen based on durability and resistance to the elements. Signage package and specifications were provided to vendor for fabrication and installation was managed.
